Flux Films and Maciunas's Piano Piece No. 13 (e*cinema academy 25-9-2012)

For the Fluxus movement, spearheaded by George Maciunas, the process of filmmaking did not end once a film had been shot. They were meant to be "moving wallpaper" that people could variously focus on or ignore. Fluxus artist Dick Higgins created the term intermedia, and in placing the focus as much on the social situation as on the films themselves, Fluxus turned film screenings into intermedia events. EYE screened a program of Maciunas-produced Flux Films by various artists, as well as Sad Movies by Dutch Fluxus artist Wim T. Schippers and Wim van der Linden (1966/67). The screening culminated in a re-enactment of Maciunas's Piano Piece No. 13 for Nam June Paik (1964).
