2026-07-28 Srimad Bhagavatam SB 3.1.8-12
Today we discussed that “Devotees try to remove attachment when it is in the seed form and make sure it doesn’t grow much“🌸SB 3.1.8-12
🌸SB 3.1.8
🪷The reasons why Vidura leaves home specially at the time of the need of family are described.
🪷When we read SB or BG, if we have the knowledge of Mahabharata, the characters, the situation, the events, then we will be able to absorb more in the mood of the people’s situations.
🌸SB 3.1.9
🪷King Pandu was younger to Dhritarashtra but because Dhritarashtra was born blind, Pandu became the king.
🪷Once he was in a forest with queen Kunti and Madri. King Pandu had got a curse to die if he associated with Madri, since he killed a sage in the form of a deer.
🪷Pandu died young in forest and Madri also entered the funeral pyre of Pandu.
🪷So the 5 sons and kurti maharani came back to the palace but Duryodhana did not like it.
🪷Maharaj Yudishtir was the rightful heir to his father’s kingdom. But because of attachment of Dhritarashtra to Duryodhana, Pandavas were unfairly treated. ( gave poison to Bhima, burn them in laksha graha, Humiliation of Draupadi, everything was taken in doot krida from Pandavas. With the loosing of last game, they had to go to forest for 12 years and also face 1 year of incognito.
🪷Why 12 years - if a kingdom does not have a king then those who are ruling is officially declared a king.
🪷13th year was incognito for Pandavas ( agyatavaas) as Kauravas thought they will not be able to hide with such great personality.
🌹Yudhishthira was disguised as Kanka, a courtier, advisor, and expert dice player who befriended King Virata.
🌹Bhima was disguised as Vallabha, a royal cook, butcher, and wrestler who managed the king's kitchen.
🌹Arjuna was disguised as Brihannala, a dance, music, and arts teacher of neutral gender/eunuch who lived in the royal women's quarters.
🌹Nakula was disguised as Granthika, a keeper and trainer of the royal horses in the stables.
🌹Sahadeva was disguised as Tantipala, a cowherd and cattle keeper who managed the royal livestock.
🌹Draupadi disguised as Sairandhri, a personal maid and hairdresser to Queen Sudeshna.
🪷Even today, if a house has no owner and if a person lives for 12 years, he will be the owner of the house.(law of adverse possession )
🪷Krishna comes as a peace messenger to just ask for 5 Villages for Pandavas. Duryodhana declined to give even a land of the size of the tip of a needle.
🌸SB 3.1.10
🪷Vidura was expert in giving political suggestions and advice( Vidura niti)
🌸SB 3.1.11 & 12
Vidura tells to Dhritarashtra to return the legitimate share of Yudishtir maharaj.
Vidura is giving reasons to Dhritarashtra why he should return the kingdom.
🌹Bhima who is so strong is full of revenge breathing heavily like a snake.
🌹Krishna is on the side of Pandavas.
🪷When Pandavas were escaping from laksha graha, they went through a secret tunnel and were trying to run very far as Duryodhana was trying to kill them. They all got very tired. Bhima then carried all Pandavas and Kunti maharani, but after sometime he was very tired and when he puts down Kunti maharani and Pandavas, they slept on grass. When Bhima saw the scene how tired Kunti and Pandavas were, he was very angry and wanted to go and kill everyone.
🪷Yudishtir maharaj calmed Bhima down and said it’s not the right time.
🪷Duryodhana also became soft in many situations but due to the bad association he was always agitated.
🪷Vidura gave Dhritarashtra very good instructions and counseling. He told him that lord Krishna was intimately related with them as their cousin and tried to convince him to return the kingdom to the Pandavas.
⭐️Learning point -
🪷The main reason, the war of Kurukshetra happened was due to Dhritarashtra attachment to his son to become a king.
🪷Good advice of Vidura was not taken.
🪷peace messenger was not taken seriously.
🌸Bg. 2.62 - While contemplating the objects of the senses, a person develops attachment for them, and from such attachment lust develops, and from lust anger arises.
🪷Dhritarashtra intelligence was lost due to attachment for his son.
🪷this attachment to his son may seem insignificant but it caused a devastation of entire dynasty later.🪷In our life also there are many things which may seem insignificant but may cause a big consequence🪷A little spark can cause a big fire.
🪷no one plans, even by taking a sip of alcohol or a smoke of cigarette, can cause big destruction.🪷Devotees try to remove attachment when it is in the seed form and make sure it doesn’t grow much.🪷It’s hard to cut a big tree but when it’s in a seed form we can remove it .
🪷The 4 regulative principles help to remove even the seed of such attachment.
We have to be aware that any insignificant thing may also become the cause of big damage.
⭐️We can focus on what is the little thing in our life that we are allowing it to enter which can bring danger or big consequence later.
