Have you ever felt like you were the only one struggling? Have you ever been willing to stand for Christ, only to find yourself falling short when the moment came? What do you do when fear, suffering, or personal failure leaves you wondering how you can go on? As Jesus approaches the cross, His disciples discover the weakness of their own hearts. They insist they will stand with Him, but when the danger comes, they scatter. Peter will deny Him, and even those who seemed ready to fight will flee. Yet in the middle of their failure, we see the unwavering faithfulness of Jesus Christ. Jesus knows the suffering ahead. In Gethsemane, He prays in deep anguish, asking the Father if the cup might pass from Him. Yet He submits Himself to the Father’s will and willingly moves toward the cross. While His disciples sleep, Jesus remains faithful. While they flee, He stands firm. He goes to the cross not for Himself, but to accomplish the salvation of sinners. The disciples’ failures were real, but they did not have the final word. The risen Christ would restore and use these men to carry the Gospel to the world. Their story reminds us that our hope is not found in the strength of our own commitment, but in the faithfulness of Jesus Christ. Trials are real. Suffering is real. Our failures are real. But we are not without hope. Scripture reminds us that the Lord is near to the brokenhearted and that nothing can separate believers from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. When you feel weak, look to Jesus. When you stumble, turn back to Him. And when fellow believers struggle, come alongside them and help bear their burdens. We may not always understand why God allows the trials we face, but we can trust the One who has promised never to abandon His people. He was willing. He went all the way. And because He lives, we have hope.
