Celebrating the Diamond Jubilee of SAC Nso - Today 31st of January @ SAC Nso - Part 1

#Celebration Of The 60th Anniversary Of Saint Augustine’s College Nso, the City of God. A jubilee by definition is a celebration of a special anniversary of someone or something this could be a tin anniversary (ten years), crystal anniversary (fifteen years), or silver anniversary (twenty years) . But our lovely city of God is neither celebrating a silver nor golden jubilee, it is celebrating its diamond jubilee sixty years of existence and this celebration marked a special place in the hearts of many and makes our college special in many ways. The jubilee celebration came with a lot of preparations and activities including the jubilee games which got the students all worked up in preparation for the finals in handball, football and basket ball for the various clubs in school. To mark our Jubilee celebration, we also had competitive games with other colleges; On Friday January 26th SAC played handball and football with the girls of OLICC Kumbo and SAC emerged victorious in both. On Sunday January 28th, there was a thrilling football match between SAC and SAMS kitiwum. SAC was beaten three goals to one in her own field. It was a shocki that was not easy to accept at the eve of our jubilee. The Principal Fr Pontianus , threatened to send all the boys to Kitiwum to become minor seminarians by force. However, at the end of the games the winning teams took home their various prizes and had some refreshments before retiring to their various schools. Sunday 28th ended with the arrival of the principal and some students of St Rita’s Annex Kom, Mfumte who came to celebrate with us. On the eve of the jubilee, the students were buzzing around the school campus making preparations for the occasion that is, the decorations in the Chapel, various refreshment halls, the sweeping of the school campus, choir practice and the delicacies for that day. At the end of the day the students, the students went to bed with a lot of excitement of what was to happen the following day. Finally, the long awaited day came. Early that morning the students and some auxiliary staff members joined hands to add some finishing touches. The students then rushed, hurriedly took their baths and joyously rushed out to welcome the bishop. The bishop made his way up the Mboh mbiim hill to the school grounds where he was welcomed heartily with a bouquet by a junior student, Tame Kela. With pomp and fanfare the Bishop was accompanied by some flower girls, students and some staff members to the Chapel where Holy Mass was to be celebrated. After the long procession of the concelebrating Priests and the bishop, Holy Mass began with a welcome Address from the Principal. During Mass some members of the community received the Sacrament of Confirmation. Towards the end of Mass some staff members (seven in number) were decorated by the Bishop in acknowledgement of their perseverance and assiduity in service to the college throughout the years. It was really a beautiful ceremony. Shortly after, the Bishop handed to the Principal the Papal Blessing on which is inscribed words of congratulations and encouragement to the Principal, Staff and Students on the diamond jubilee celebration of this special institution. Immediately after that, a soul searching speech was given by one of the decorated teachers Mr Kilian Wirnsungnin, on behalf of his colleagues and the college. It was followed by a fund-raising for the completion of the school auditorium. Part one of the occasion ended with the Bishop imparting his Episcopal blessing on all. History remains our witness that the Liturgy was well prepared and rendered in a splendid manner. At the second phase of the celebration, the Bishop, Parents, teachers and other invitees were led to the hall by the girls’ dance group called TOH. In the hall, the special choir animated, presented what could be described as the great Jubilee song. Then came the cutting of the jubilee cake in the presence all. At the end of refreshments, it became the beginning of visiting day for many students as they could be seen in various groups and corners conversing with their parents, relatives and friends. What a beautiful and memorable day it was in the City of God.
