High drama unfolded on the streets of Central Delhi as members of the National Students' Union of India (NSUI) and the Indian Youth Congress (IYC) staged a massive protest demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The demonstrators attempted to march from Le Méridien hotel toward Jantar Mantar.
Tensions escalated as protesters clashed with the Delhi Police, who had set up heavy barricades to halt the march. Agitating students scaled the security barriers and raised slogans against the Election Commission. A few protesters managed to jump over the barricades, prompting security personnel to immediately detain them and load them into police buses.
The protest witnessed unique forms of demonstration. While several youth activists sat on the main road blocking traffic, others were seen playing 'daphli' (tambourine) and carrying banners while chanting anti-administration slogans. The core demand of the protesters was the immediate resignation of CEC Gyanesh Kumar over alleged electoral manipulation. Police deployed heavy forces to maintain law and order in the area.
