I wrote this piece three years ago during a time of deep contemplation. It was deep winter, and I was washing our clothes by hand in a spring, spending hours there tending the laundry within the frozen landscape. My hands worked in the water as I sang. My Raven was still with me then. She perched upon the laundry tote beside me, curled there asleep as my voice moved through the cold winter air. There was something so raw and simple about those moments. The spring water. The frozen Earth. My hands working. My breath moving. My Raven sleeping beside me. And my Voice. This piece came from that place. A place of deep contemplation, where there was no stage and no performance—only life being lived, work being done, and a song rising naturally from within me. Three years later, I return to that Voice and allow this piece to breathe again. A remembrance of winter. A remembrance of my Raven. A remembrance of the Voice that was already finding its way through me.
