Description : A law degree alone will no longer be sufficient to obtain a Certificate of Practice (CoP) for certain new advocates in Uttar Pradesh. The Bar Council of Uttar Pradesh has introduced a mandatory six-month training requirement, effective 1 November 2026, subject to approval from the Bar Council of India. 📌 Key Highlights: 1. Six-month training: Candidates must work as law trainees under a senior advocate after registration and before applying for the CoP. 2. Eligibility of senior advocate: The supervising advocate must have at least 10 years of practice and hold a valid CoP. 3. Mandatory certificate: Upon completion, the senior advocate must issue a certificate on their letterhead, verified by a member of the Bar Council. The certificate must be uploaded while applying for the CoP. 4. Limit on trainees: A senior advocate may certify a maximum of two trainee candidates in a calendar year. Violations may invite disciplinary action.5. Exemption: Candidates who applied for the CoP before 1 November 2026 will not be covered by this requirement.
