Beefing Up the TINY Taco! SCX30 Tacoma Brass Upgrades | HobbyTown Indy Builder Series Ep. 2

Welcome back to Episode 2 of the HobbyTown Indianapolis Builder Series! You guys loved what we did with the 1/10 Gladiator, but today, we are shrinking things down. WAY down. We’ve got the brand new 1/30 scale Axial SCX30 Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro on the bench! Axial just dropped these micro machines, and they come in two flavors: an overland build and a dedicated rock crawler. We went with the Green Rock Crawler edition because, honestly, who doesn't love a rig that comes out of the box with a fender delete, tube bumpers, and a KC light bar? Out of the box, this tiny Taco is already ridiculously capable. It features a forward weight bias, an angled skid plate, and ramped axle housings that help it slide right over tricky obstacles instead of getting hung up. It even has officially licensed BFGoodrich Krawler tires wrapped around KMC Torx wheels! But let’s be real, we’re not leaving it stock. In this episode, we are adding some serious low-down weight to keep this micro crawler planted on those off-camber climbs. We are tossing the stock plastic and installing brass steering knuckles and brass diff covers (front and rear). Adding brass down low is hands-down one of the best upgrades you can do for any crawler, but on a 1/30 scale rig, it completely transforms the stability!
