Tank Relics goes inside the armour of the two world wars to tell the part of the story most histories skip: what it was actually like for the men sealed inside these machines. How eighteen of them shared a single compartment with two running engines and no partition. How the heat and exhaust fumes got bad enough that crews stopped fighting just to open up and breathe. How a driver sat so high behind the gun that he could not see the ten metres of ground in front of his own tracks. Every episode is built from war diaries, soldiers’ letters and diaries, museum conservation records and period technical manuals, then told as one continuous story rather than a list of facts. Some moments are reconstructed to bring those accounts to life, but the machines, the conditions and the events come from the historical record. If you want to know what these wars felt like from inside the hull, subscribe — new documentaries are posted regularly. Would you have climbed into an A7V? Eighteen men, two engines, no ventilation, and thirty millimetres of steel. Tell me in the comments.
