On 20 May 1910, nine European sovereigns gathered at Windsor Castle for the funeral of King Edward VII. The resulting photograph became one of the most extraordinary royal images ever taken. Standing and seated together were rulers from Britain, Germany, Spain, Denmark, Norway, Belgium, Greece, Portugal and Bulgaria — members of royal families connected by blood, marriage and diplomacy. Among them were: King George V of the United Kingdom Kaiser Wilhelm II of Germany King Alfonso XIII of Spain King Haakon VII of Norway King Frederick VIII of Denmark King George I of Greece King Albert I of Belgium King Manuel II of Portugal Ferdinand I of Bulgaria At the time, Europe still appeared dominated by royal dynasties. But only four years later, World War I would transform the continent forever. Some of these monarchs would lose their thrones. Others would see their kingdoms changed beyond recognition. This video explores who each man was, which country he ruled, how long he reigned, and what happened to him after this famous photograph was taken. #RoyalHistory #EuropeanRoyalty #KingGeorgeV #KaiserWilhelmII #WorldWarI #BritishRoyalFamily #EuropeanMonarchies #RoyalFamilies #HistoryDocumentary #HistoricPhotos #MonarchyHistory #WindsorCastle #EdwardVII #HistoryYouTube #RoyalDocumentary
