We Can’t Afford the American Dream Anymore

Being in the Philippines changed the way I look at life in America. This trip opened my eyes to so many things — the cost of living, food, family, education, the way we spend our time, and ultimately the kind of life I want for my children. The American Dream is supposed to be about being able to work hard, own a home, raise your family, have a good quality of life, and build something for your future. But honestly… we can’t afford the American Dream anymore. Everything keeps getting more expensive while wages don’t seem to keep up. Housing, groceries, healthcare, education, gas, and everyday expenses can make it extremely difficult for families to get ahead. Even spending quality time with your family or doing something fun can feel like a financial decision. And that’s the part that really started bothering me. I’m not trying to live some extravagant lifestyle. I want the basics. I want to do right by God. I want to take care of my family. I want to be healthy. I want to feed my children good food. I want my kids to have opportunities. I want to enjoy my life and actually have peace. But it feels like getting those basics in America comes with so much stress, debt, and financial pressure. Then we went to the Philippines. We were able to enjoy ourselves, spend time with family, explore, eat fresh food, enjoy activities, and actually live without feeling like every single thing was going to cost a fortune. It also made me think seriously about education for my boys. I love the idea of them attending an international school, learning different languages, experiencing different cultures, and being exposed to a broader way of thinking. And that’s when I knew — we’re relocating. 🇵🇭 This isn’t just about leaving America. It’s about creating a different kind of future for our family. Now the journey is about preparing. I’ll be sharing what we’re learning, how we’re planning, what we’re doing to get ready to leave America, and the actual process of relocating our family from America to another country. We’ll be talking about the real things families have to consider when moving abroad — housing, education, finances, belongings, travel, preparing the kids, and everything in between.
