56 moons of Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto, each going around at its real orbital speed. Distances are to scale, and every moon starts where it really was on 1 January 2000. Each moon plays a note when it crosses the line at the top.
Things to watch: Io, Europa and Ganymede line up in pairs at two opposite spots, but never all three at once. Tethys and Dione each carry small moons 60 degrees ahead and behind. Phobos goes around faster than Mars turns. Triton goes the other way. Pluto and Charon always keep the same side toward each other.
00:00 Intro + Jupiter: the big four
00:40 Earth and the Moon
00:52 Mars: Phobos and Deimos
01:10 Jupiter: inner moons
01:30 Saturn: moons at the rings
01:54 Saturn: Mimas to Rhea
02:26 Saturn: Titan, Hyperion, Iapetus
02:50 Uranus: inner moons
03:12 Uranus: the big five
03:38 Neptune: inner moons
04:02 Neptune: Triton
04:24 Pluto and Charon
04:54 All 12 moon systems at once
Time runs faster in each scene by a different amount; inside a scene the period ratios are real. Orbits are drawn as circles, the moon dots are not to scale, and Uranus' small inner moons start from their 2025 positions. The notes come from a musical scale.
