It carries both social and spiritual significance and is used in ceremonies, storytelling, and community gatherings. This arrangement draws from the Bɛwaa tradition, a recreational yet culturally rich genre of gyil music performed in villages and social settings. Bɛwaa often features cyclical melodic patterns, expressive solo passages, and vocal interjections. “Tome Na” and “Saa Be Waana” are teaching pieces composed by Bernard Woma within the Bɛwaa tradition. The arrangement also incorporates “Yaa Yaa Kole,” a well-known Ghanaian children’s song and community dance. The second part features Kpanlogo, a popular recreational drumming and dance style associated with the Ga people of Ghana, characterized by energetic drumming, call-and-response singing, and expressive dance. This performance brings together traditional Ghanaian musical practices through gyil, kour, and kpanlogo, reflecting their communal, educational, and celebratory dimensions.
