My First Solo Hike in 2 Years | Jūrkalne to Strante, Latvia

After two years of almost always having my little girl by my side, I finally went on an adventure alone. 🌿 This summer I had hoped to do this hike with Florence, but as the weeks passed, it became clear that I wasn’t quite sure I could carry everything — literally and emotionally — while keeping up with a two-year-old on a long coastal hike. So instead, for the first time since becoming a mother, I left my little girl at home with her dad and set off on a solo adventure along the Latvian coast. I started in Jūrkalne and made my way towards Strante, following the coastline and figuring things out as I went. Some parts of the route were easy, while others were a little more complicated — with small rivers to cross, the sea coming surprisingly close to the shore, and a few moments where I had to stop and figure out how to get around. At one point, an unplanned river crossing from the seaside left me standing in water up to my underwear. 😂 But that’s part of what I love about hiking alone — there is no one else to follow, no one to ask, and no perfect plan. You simply have to trust yourself, pay attention to nature and find your own way forward. By the evening, I found a place to camp, made dinner and watched the sun slowly disappear. And then came the part I had been wondering about most — spending the night completely alone in a hammock, somewhere along the Latvian coast.
