Sitting at 3,583 meters (11,755 feet) near the Mandakini River, it hosts one of the twelve sacred Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva and is a key part of the Char Dham Yatra The temple is believed to have been built by the Pandavas and later revived by Adi Shankaracharya. It is surrounded by the majestic Himalayan peaks, making it one of India's most scenic pilgrimage destinations. Pilgrims usually trek about 16 km from Gaurikund to reach the temple. Pony, palki, and helicopter services are also available during the pilgrimage season.
