"Tidelight" (AMY-inspired): music by Abysmal Games, re-voiced for a software model of AMY, the additive synthesis chip (every sound built from sine-wave harmonics) that Atari's research lab designed in 1983-84 and never sold. Simulated from published specs: this is not a recording of a real AMY chip (no recording of a working AMY is known). It is our model of Atari's 1983-84 AMY documents, a guess at what the song might have sounded like with every part on AMY. AMY was meant for Atari's computers, not the 7800, so this is a what-if. How AMY works and how the model was built:    • AMY: the Atari Sound Chip Made of Sine Wav...   The same song on the 7800's real chips: POKEY + TIA:    • Tidelight (POKEY) - Atari 7800 music   TIA only:    • Tidelight (TIA) - Atari 7800 music   Sound: an AMY model, eight voices sharing 64 sine-wave harmonics. Key and tempo: D dorian, 112 bpm; the same notes, sections and tempo as the POKEY version. Music: Every part on AMY's eight voices: the swelling lead's upper harmonics bloom in as each note swells (the POKEY version's swells and bends kept note for note), the PWM lead as a moving pulse spectrum, rolling bells, a choir, celesta ticks, a plucked bass and AMY drums. Length: 2:38, played once to its end. The picture is a PC redraw of the "7800 Music" jukebox screen, its spectrum computed from the audio: no 7800 ROM can play this version, because the chip never went into production. Sound leveled to -14 LUFS. The video starts with the Abysmal Games logo and its sound. Music by Abysmal Games https://www.abysmal-games.com/ #Atari7800 #chiptune #AMY #homebrew #8bit
