NEVER Sleep With Your Wrist Curled: It Can Damage Your Median Nerve! Do you wake up at night with tingling or numbness in your hand? It is worth taking seriously rather than writing it off as normal ageing. Carpal tunnel syndrome happens when the median nerve is compressed within the narrow tunnel at the wrist. The classic pattern often involves the thumb, index finger, middle finger, and part of the ring finger, and symptoms can be worse at night. This video breaks down why a curled wrist can increase pressure inside the carpal tunnel, why the little-finger pattern matters, and why hand numbness should not be self-diagnosed from one symptom alone. We also examine conservative measures often discussed for mild symptoms, including keeping the wrist in a neutral position at night, reducing aggravating positions, and taking regular breaks from repetitive hand use. Wrist splints and exercises are not guaranteed cures, and the evidence for their benefit varies. Persistent loss of sensation, weakness, visible muscle wasting at the base of the thumb, or repeatedly dropping objects deserve timely medical assessment. Other nerve and medical conditions can also cause hand numbness.
