THE LINE — What Happened to Saudi Arabia's 170-Kilometer City?

Saudi Arabia planned something almost unimaginable. A 170-kilometer-long city rising through the desert. Two mirrored walls, 500 meters high, designed to eventually accommodate millions of people without conventional roads or cars. This was THE LINE — the most famous part of Saudi Arabia's massive NEOM development. But the reality became very different from the original vision. Construction advanced across the desert. Billions were spent across NEOM. Foundations were built. Infrastructure expanded. Then targets changed, projects were reassessed, major contracts were altered, and in September 2025 construction on THE LINE was suspended pending strategic review. So what actually happened? Was THE LINE cancelled? Where did the money go? Why did the 170-kilometer vision become a much smaller first phase? And what is actually happening in the Saudi desert today? This documentary follows the journey from the original futuristic vision to the construction site that exists today — separating the official plans, reported developments and physical reality.
