is saying that you’re not toxic, toxic?

Brent Faiyaz has accidentally become the posterboy for independence in music and toxicity in R&B. But he’d only agree to one of those claims. His story is one that can become a lot more common in the coming years but was a case of perfect timing and real talent. Starting as a Soundcloud rapper, the decline of traditional labels along with the rise of streaming means that anyone can make it. Brent always approached music authentically and honestly, making what he wanted to listen to and it being a cathartic outlet for him. He hoped it would free him for his day job but could’ve only dreamed it would’ve taken him where it has.

The “Evolution” series is a deeper look into the career and life of an artist, specifically into what has shaped their sound and caused it to change over their discography. While this is a fun and interesting undertaking and story in itself, we can use this to predict and theorise what might be in store next from these artists.
