♢ The chamber is completely full of a grainy and viscous tissue. This is a filtration vessel that is more object than chamber, whose spatiality is not conventionally accessible. Apparently solid-state in that none of its components are able to move at the scale of human observation. The organization of the filtration vessel is lobular, like a human liver, it has 2 lobes. On the basis of the Couinaud system, these 2 lobes are further divided into 8 segments. Each segment is a different size and geometry and proportion. Movement between the 2 lobes requires leaving the lobe altogether and entering the other from outside. Movement between segments within a lobe is possible but the visitor must succumb to the physical properties of bile. As with the liver, the vessel is extremely hot, a higher temperature than anywhere else in the castle. All perceptible geometries are smooth and flowing surfaces of compound curvature. The vessel stores iron, copper, zinc, cobalt, molybdenum. These are stored in gilt pyxes. The pyxes are arranged in cavities or perisinusoidal spaces. These cavities lie between segments. The archways delimiting the cavities are encrusted with biliary atresia, alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency, alagille syndrome, progressive familial intrahepatic cholestasis, Langerhans cell histiocytosis and hepatic hemangioma in baroque symmetries and florid draperies of death and disease. Only items of a specific size, approximately the size of a spermatazoan, are capable of passing through the archways. The vessel is made of text. Everything that occupies the vessel is also made of text. Conventional material and scalar concerns are irrelevant. Small cameos and ikons are distributed geographically in a scatter plot throughout the liver-like mass. These depictions include but are not limited to Billie Holiday, Jackson Maine, Errol Flynn, Barbara Payton, Modest Mussorgsky, Pōmare V, Gao Yang, Ben Sanderson, Pōmare II, Fernando Pessoa, John Trefry, Hank Chinaski, Curly Howard, Don Birnam, Bon Scott, John Bonham, Richard Burton, Truman Capote, John Cassavettes, Kate & Charlie Hannah, Mickey Mantle, Phil Katz, Jeff Hanneman, Amy Winehouse. Each ikon or cameo is rendered in the deposition of crystals from bile salt, bilirubin, and cholesterol. The images are created through a depth map of the crystal deposition and are formed through automatic processes. The ikons are associated with different segments of the tissue. At certain times a series oculus openings or fistulas or apertures or stomas is aligning creating a connecting syzygy or enfilade between ikons in different segments. The movement of these openings is generated by the ebb and flow of bile and other humors to and from the envelope of the space through scuppers and gargoyles. The grainy tissue is edible.
