South Florida is facing widespread coastal flooding as some of the highest tides of the year push seawater onto roads, beaches and neighborhoods from Palm Beach County to the Florida Keys. A tide gauge near Fort Lauderdale recorded its highest water level ever measured, while Hollywood Beach and Miami Beach saw significant flooding. The flooding was driven by king tides coinciding with a full moon, with additional water-level pressure from a powerful nor’easter farther north. In some inland neighborhoods, seawater did not simply come over seawalls — it moved underground through porous limestone and pushed backward through storm drains as groundwater levels rose. Hollywood Beach saw several inches of seawater cover the Broadwalk, while water reached car doors and forced closures along parts of State Road A1A. Pompano Beach and Miami Beach also experienced substantial street flooding.
