Coming from America, where automatic cars have basically become the default, one thing about driving in the UK and Europe has always stood out to me… WHY ARE THERE SO MANY MANUAL CARS?! 😂🚗 Today we're diving into why manual transmission cars remained so popular across the UK and much of Europe while Americans overwhelmingly moved toward automatics. And apparently, there are A LOT of reasons behind it. Historically, manual cars tended to be cheaper to buy, cheaper to maintain, and more fuel-efficient — which mattered enormously in European countries where fuel prices have generally been much higher than in the United States. Then there are the cars themselves. European roads and cities traditionally favored smaller vehicles with smaller engines, and manual transmissions worked extremely well with them. Add different driving cultures, licensing systems, taxes, fuel costs and decades of people simply learning to drive stick from the beginning, and you end up with two very different car cultures. But things are changing FAST. Modern automatic transmissions have become dramatically better, electric vehicles don't use traditional manual gearboxes, and automatic cars have become increasingly common across Europe. So are we actually watching the manual car slowly disappear? 👀 As an American, there's also something fascinating about how differently we talk about manuals. In America, knowing how to drive stick can almost feel like a special skill. Meanwhile, I feel like half of Europe is going: “Kelly… that's just driving.” 😂😭 So UK and European viewers, I NEED YOU for this one! 🚗 Did you learn to drive in a manual? 🇬🇧🇪🇺 Is manual still considered the “normal” choice where you live? 😂 What do you think when you hear Americans talk about driving stick like it's an achievement? ⚡ And with EVs becoming more common, do you think you'll miss manual cars when they're eventually gone? Also tell me which country you're from because I KNOW the answer is going to vary massively across Europe! 🎤 Exclusive reactions & additional content: Patreon:   / runawayamericaneuropeedition   COPYRIGHT & FAIR USE This video is a transformative reaction created under Section 107 of the U.S. Copyright Act for purposes including commentary, criticism, review, education and analysis.
