The Cobra and the Crow - a gentle Panchatantra moral story for kids. Damanaka the jackal tells his brother Karataka how a little crow once beat a big black cobra. Every time Mother Crow lays her eggs, the cobra from the hollow of their banyan tree takes them away. The crows are far too small to fight him - so they ask a clever jackal for help, fly to the king's city, and borrow a princess's gold chain for a very clever trick. A calm, gently paced retelling from the Panchatantra (Book 1: Conflict Amongst Friends), made for children aged 3 to 8. Moral: What cannot be done by strength can be done by cleverness - a clever plan, and a wise friend, can help even the smallest beat the biggest bully. A note for parents: in the original story the king's servants kill the cobra. In our retelling they chase it far away and it never comes back - no violence is shown. Talk about it together: Why couldn't the crows fight the cobra themselves? Who did the crows ask for help, and why? When a problem feels too big for you, who can you ask?
