Innocence and its Echo // Tape-Loop Opera Nr.2 // feat. Roman Rofalski

Innocence and its Echo is a musical composition for one performer, built around a collection of custom tape-loops. At its core are dialogue and monologue samples from 70s and 80s daytime television — soap operas: their romantic clichés, artificial plot twists and emotional exaggerations. These affects are shifted here into a different register entirely: unnamed tensions, unspoken dread, something almost alien in the sentiment. Think of it as daytime TV show tradition of the 80s meets analog horror of the YouTube generation. The tape collection is designed to grow. A selection of 30 tapes should be drawn for any performance, but the total number of available tape-loops is extendable — future versions of this piece will incorporate additional material.
