The 2026 Ford Mustang Mach-E has spent years being measured against one car, and for most of that time the Tesla Model Y won before the argument started. It went further on the same energy and plugged into a charging network nothing else could touch. That is over. Ford was the first outside automaker Tesla let onto the Supercharger network, back in February 2024, and Ford now counts more than 29,000 designated Superchargers open to its cars across the United States and Canada. One thing up front, because it matters: this particular car was filmed at a European motor show, so it wears European specification and a Swiss window sticker. The prices and range figures below are the real American ones. We look at the blanked grille panel and the running-horse badge that still divides people, the full-width rear light bar, the nineteen-inch wheels, and the weight that explains the efficiency gap. Inside, the Mach-E does the one thing the Model Y does not: it puts a 10.2-inch instrument display directly behind the steering wheel, and keeps a physical volume dial on the 15.5-inch portrait screen. Here is the part that changed the whole argument for American buyers. In the UK this car costs far more than a Model Y. In the US it does not. A 2026 Mach-E Premium eAWD starts at $43,595, while the Model Y runs from $39,990 for a Standard rear-drive up to $49,990 for a Premium all-wheel drive. The Mach-E lands inside that band and undercuts a comparable Model Y by roughly $6,400. One honest catch, and it is a real one: the hardware in this cabin is Ford's best argument, and the software has been its weakest. In 2025 Ford recalled roughly 197,000 Mach-Es built between 2021 and 2025 over an electronic door-latch fault caused by control-module software, and fixed it with an update. Owners also report the Mach-E managing around 3.1 miles per kWh against roughly 3.7 for a Model Y, so Tesla still wins on running costs.
