I also had in mind to raise some money in the memory of two marvellous men - Derek Schultz and Steve Walpole. Both were known to put their running shoes on, both were lovers of a good whiskey, both were known for their ability to love well (particularly their families) and live life creatively and fully. Unfortunately, due to injury I’ve not been able to run for months and my 50th year is coming to an end! I still wanted to mark it in some way, still wanted to challenge myself in some way and still wanted to raise money in memory of Derek and Steve. So, I’ve decided to challenge my vanity!! I plan to have my head shaved, I’m afraid I haven’t the courage to go bald but it will be very, very short. The deed will be done on 20th January 2018 (a few days after my 50th birthday). I hope to raise money for Myeloma UK, Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) and Shelter. Myeloma was the disease that Steve battled with for a number of years and MSF was a charity Derek respected greatly and Shelter is a charity that is becoming close to my heart. If you are a close friend/family member and were wondering what to get me for my 50th birthday…wonder no longer. Simply donate some money instead…I have more than I need in every respect. If you don’t know me but did know either Derek or Steve then any donation would be gratefully received.
