Goth Dhoop

Gooth Dhoop is a ritual among Nepalese Hindus, to mark the day of the cowshed. Cowsheds, for us, holy places where our cows stay. We chant mantras, pray gods for growth of the livestock. Before, this ritual was performed in each cowsheds, but with the growth of towns many households cannot keep cows at their living quarters, therefore this day is celebrated in a community. We are the Poudels, traditionally cowherder Brahmins. Therefore, worship of the workplace where we milked our cows is sensible. We keep this tradition with some modification.
