A 19.7 km cycle ride across East London in a heatwave — Stratford to Aldgate, and back through Limehouse and the Lea Valley. No commentary, just the ride. Out: Stratford and the Olympic Park, Hackney Wick, Victoria Park, Bethnal Green, Whitechapel Road, Aldgate. Back: Shadwell, Limehouse, Poplar, Bromley-by-Bow, Three Mills and the Lea Valley, Stratford. 19.7 km, 1 hour 11 minutes. The parks are burnt yellow after weeks of heat, and Victoria Park is already going up for All Points East — hoardings along the paths, stages half-built behind them. Runners and cyclists out in numbers despite the temperature. The way back takes a different cycle superhighway, out along the river and then up the Lea to Bow Roundabout.
