Every Gundam Thunderbolt Evolution Explained

The Principality of Zeon's sniper Daryl Lorenz begins his journey in the Thunderbolt Sector using a standard MS-06 Zaku II equipped with a powerful Big Gun emplacement that can sink battleships outright. This debris-choked shoal zone, formerly the Moore colony Side 4, soon becomes the battlefield where a Federation rookie named Io Fleming gets shot down and subsequently steals an MS-09R Rick Dom to return home with hard intelligence. Rewarded for this feat, Io receives the heavily armed FA-78 Full Armor Gundam to counter Zeon snipers, while Daryl undergoes radical surgery to become a quadruple amputee capable of piloting the experimental MS-06R Psycho Zaku via the nerve-interfacing Reuse P Device. Following these initial clashes, both sides rapidly escalate their hardware through mass-produced Psycho Zaku Mk-II units, scavenged Perfect Gundam variants, and the highly versatile amphibious RX-78AL Atlas Gundam deployed during Operation Thunderbolt. As the conflict deepens, Io pilots a modified two-seat Perfect Zeong alongside a Cyber Newtype before Daryl temporarily reverts to an outdated MS-05 Zaku I following intense combat losses. Ultimately, the ongoing narrative converges on the massive MSTB-001 Thunderbolt Gundam, a three-person variable mobile suit built by Anaheim Electronics that combines Federation Gundam styling with captured Zeon psycommu architecture.
