Others followed it all the way to my feet. A few gave me exactly one chance to get the hook set right, and if I missed it, that was pretty much it. It was the kind of fishing that keeps pulling you farther upstream because you HAVE to know what’s hiding in the next pool. Of course, that becomes slightly more complicated when you snap the tip off your fly rod in the middle of the trip... Fortunately, I had another rod with me. It was an inexpensive backup rod, but it worked like a charm!! So the fishing continued, and somehow, so did the surprises. Beautiful water, aggressive wild rainbows, plenty of missed fish, one very unfortunate encounter between my fly rod and a tree, and a gorgeous chonky wild rainbow that made the whole mess worth it. This is exactly why I love fishing little mountain streams. You never know what the next pool holds, or what the next few minutes are going to give you. Thanks for coming along!
