Mentawai tribe is one of the oldest tribes in Indonesia. The tribe populates the Mentawai Islands, West Sumatera, and is believed to have been inhibiting the islands since 500 BC. Lives in Mentawai depends on nature, and the Mentawai people believe that the forest is the abode of ancestral spirits. Their belief is known as the Sabulungan. One of the unique and interesting customs of the Mentawai Tribe is the Mentawai tattoos. Mentawai tattoos are the oldest tattoo in the world, believed to have been existing since 1500 BC. Mentawai tattoo images represent an identity regarding the land of origin, social status, and how great the bearer is as a hunter. Women from Mentawai Tribe have unique habits. The women sharpened their teeth until they turned pointy. Mentawai people believe that a beautiful grown-up girl should have pointy teeth. This tradition meant to control oneself from six human vices, namely lust (kama), greed (Lobha), anger (Krodha), drunkenness (Mada), jealousy (Matsarya), and confusion (Moha).
