Iyekhei Festival 2026 | Rare Cultural Celebration of the Iyekhei People of Auchi, Edo North, Nigeria

Experience the vibrant and rare Iyekhei Festival, a cherished cultural celebration of the Iyekhei people of Auchi in Edo North, Edo State, Nigeria. This special event unites sons and daughters of Iyekhei — both those living at home in the historic town of Auchi and those in the diaspora across Nigeria and around the world — in a powerful display of heritage, identity, and communal pride. Crafted to keep the rich culture of the Iyekhei people alive and awake for generations to come, the festival serves as a living bridge between the past and the present. In a rapidly changing world, it rekindles traditional values, stories, music, dance, and the deep sense of belonging that defines the Iyekhei community within the larger Auchi Sacred Kingdom and the broader Afemai/Etsako cultural landscape of Edo North. The 2026 Iyekhei Festival continues this proud tradition with even greater energy and participation. Expect colourful traditional attire, rhythmic drumming and indigenous music, energetic cultural dances (including expressions rooted in the celebrated hunter traditions of Auchi), communal gatherings, speeches that honour ancestors and elders, and heartfelt moments of reconnection between families separated by distance. It is a time of thanksgiving, reflection, cultural education for the youth, and joyful celebration of everything that makes the Iyekhei people unique. Watch this video to immerse yourself in the beauty, resilience, and living heritage of the Iyekhei people. Feel the pride of a community that refuses to let its culture fade.
