One of the many perks to traveling, specifically via a road trip, is getting to check out new courses along the way. So, when the opportunity presents itself, that's exactly what I try and do! This time around, I decided to stay in Beckley, WV on my way back from Charlotte, NC. While I was there, I had the pleasure of checking out the state's TOP-RATED COURSE, Lake Stephens! Lake Stephens is an absolutely BEAUTIFUL course that leans toward the moderate to difficult end of the spectrum. Don't let the first couple holes trick you - the hills, blind shots, shifty terrain, and general layout of the course make this a bit more than a standard stroll in the park. On most holes, you'll find yourself choosing between multiple gaps to hit with varying degrees of sketchiness just beyond the fairways. Other holes will have you hoping that you brought a disc that you're comfortable with sacrificing to the disc demons of the lake. And although this course will test your mental fortitude and resolve, you'll finish your round wondering when you'll get to challenge yourself once again.. I can assure you it's been on my mind ever since...
