After moving to Central Florida, we thought living near Disney World and the theme parks would become a huge part of our everyday life. And for a while, it did.
But as I talked about in my last video, something changed. Disney World stopped feeling like a vacation because it wasn't a vacation anymore. It was 20 minutes away. Universal was right there. The places we used to spend months looking forward to visiting became part of normal life.
That video—and especially the hundreds of comments you left—made me realize something else: we've spent a year and a half living in Central Florida, but outside of the theme parks, we really haven't explored much of it.
So I decided to change that, starting with Celebration, Florida.
Our lease is up in four months. Right now we pay about $2,800 a month for our house in Clermont. A comparable house in Celebration could cost us around $5,000 a month.
That's an extra $2,200 every month just to move closer to Disney World and into a completely different kind of community.
So I spent a morning walking around Celebration—not just downtown, but the lake, the neighborhoods and the residential streets—to see what actually living there might feel like.
I went there asking whether being closer to Disney and the theme parks could possibly be worth that much more money.
Somewhere along the way, though, the question changed.
Maybe we're not looking for a different house.
Maybe we're looking for a different life.
We have four months to figure it out. And apparently it only took me a year and a half—and a couple hundred people yelling at me in the comments—to realize there's a lot more to Central Florida than the theme parks.
