Here’s some info we found on the internet regarding these cool guitars… Overview Designed for jazz session guitarist Howard Roberts (who recorded the themes for the Munsters, the Twilight Zone and plenty of other TV classics), this signature model was originally built as an Epiphone in the '60s. In the '70s, Gibson made two versions of this guitar, the Custom and the Artist. The two were essentially the same with a distinct oval soundhole, but the Custom featured a Rosewood instead of Ebony fingerboard and chrome hardware. Body Style: Single cutaway hollowbody Years of Production: 1973-1981 Design Elements: One pickup, three control knobs, trapeze tailpiece, block inlays, 25 1/2-inch scale length, oval sound-hole This guitar is in great shape. All we did is clean it up a little, set it up with a new set of Flat wound strings and played it for about 4 months now…This is going to be a hard guitar to give up. I love it… We dated it from the serial number stamped into the back of the headstock and the Made in USA also stamped there. The guitar is in fantastic shape. It plays like butta…Beautiful Spruce top with Maple back and sides. This model had the Rosewood fingerboard and the Artist has the Ebony board with Gold Hardware…The pickup sounds amazing and even the pickguard is still with this one. They are always curled, cracked or missing…The frets are still in great shape and the only malady I could find is a scratch on the neck heel. Given that it doesn’t go all the way across, we determined it was a scratch and not a stress crack… See pic 9... This guitar is in amazing shape for its age… Our Tech set it up with easy playing low action that is not going to give you sore fingers… The neck is nice and straight and the truss rod works as it should. The guitar has a 1 ¾ inch nut. Big hands will like this although I love playing it and usually like narrower necks. It has a really nice C profile. The three knobs are for volume, treble and bass…very unique… Check out that original Gibson Hard Shell Case…its been around but still is in very good shape. All the latches are still there though one has a broken side..see pic 15 …Original handle and hinges still with it as well as the accessory box. Beautiful Gibson Purple Plush interior, correct for 1974 model Gibson Guitars! What a cool guitar outfit! Sold as is as its vintage and used, however, I have been hand picking my customers instruments for over 20 years now and they all loved the guitars I found them.
