Ruthi Hanchett: Tiny Homes, Student Success & What’s Next for Fullerton Schools

Fullerton School District Board Trustee Ruthi Hanchett returns to ChamberTalk with North Orange County Chamber CEO Andrew Gregson to discuss what the district has accomplished, what is happening in its schools today, and what she believes should come next. From eighth graders putting their woodshop skills to work building tiny homes for families in need, to a nationally recognized debate program, Ruthi shares some of the programs, people, and initiatives helping shape the Fullerton School District. The conversation also explores some of the challenges facing schools and families today, including student mental health, cell phones in the classroom, digital citizenship, online safety, and the responsibility schools have to create safe and supportive learning environments. Ruthi also looks ahead. As she seeks a second term representing Area 4 on the Fullerton School District Board of Trustees, she discusses what she would like to build upon, where she sees opportunities for continued improvement, and her priorities for students, families, teachers, and the district in the years ahead. It is a wide-ranging conversation about student achievement, innovation, safety, community, public education, and the work that goes into moving a school district forward.
