So I built three of them. Board one, the Waveshare ESP32-C6-LCD-1.47 (~$20), became a Crab Puck: a tiny status light for Claude Code. A pixel-art crab lives on the screen and changes state from real Claude Code hook events. Idle, thinking, working, waiting for approval, done, asleep. No prompt text ever leaves my Mac, only the event name. Board two, the 2.8 inch touchscreen everyone calls the Cheap Yellow Display (~$20), became Sonos Touch: a Winamp-style remote for every Sonos speaker in my house. Every track it plays gets logged to a Zapier table, and an AI by Zapier step reads that log and builds me a playlist, which the board pulls back down and plays with one tap on the AI MIX button. Everything is outbound from the board, so no port forwarding and no firewall rules. Board three, a second Cheap Yellow Display (~$20), became Airspace: a picture of the Wi-Fi and Bluetooth around me. It counts nearby networks and devices and shows how many are hiding behind randomised addresses. It never stores or shows a real address, a real network name or a real device name, and a privacy check fails the build if the firmware could. Claude Code wrote every line. I typed prompts, plugged in USB-C cables and held things up to the camera.
