WAIA'26: Adopting Sustainability through AI, Muneeb Ur Rehman

The Era of the Modern City: Adopting Sustainability through AI and Innovation The cities of the future will not be defined by technology alone. They will be defined by how intelligently they use energy, water, transportation, infrastructure and environmental resources while improving the quality of life for the people who live there. At World AI Assembly, Muneeb Ur Rehman, Founder & Director of Carbon Navigation Ltd, joins the Future Tech track to explore how AI and innovation can help cities move toward more sustainable, resilient and measurable models of development. AI can already help cities identify waste patterns, predict climate risks, optimise energy and water consumption, improve transportation systems and evaluate whether sustainability initiatives are actually producing results. But data alone does not create a sustainable city. The real challenge is turning environmental intelligence into action. This session will explore a practical pathway from collecting environmental data to making decisions, measuring outcomes and continuously improving sustainability strategies. The conversation will also examine how cities can prepare communities for changing seasonal patterns, extreme weather and increasing pressure on resources while continuing to support economic development. The goal is not simply a smarter city. It is a greener, healthier and more resilient one.
