Ragan & Massey’s Farms of America™ | S2 Ep 9 – Woodman Citrus Farms 🍋 From 40 acres won in a post-war military land lottery to an 800-acre citrus operation in the Arizona desert. In Season 2, Episode 9 of Ragan & Massey’s Farms of America™, we travel to Woodman Citrus Farms in Yuma, Arizona, where generations of one family have built a thriving citrus operation in one of America’s most challenging agricultural environments. Presented by RM43 The Woodman family’s farming story began when Tyler’s grandfather secured 40 acres through a post-war military land lottery. From that opportunity, the family built an agricultural legacy that today spans approximately 800 acres of citrus in Yuma’s desert soil. Tyler now farms alongside his father, Bob, growing lemons, grapefruit, and oranges in the American Southwest. But producing citrus in the desert comes with serious challenges. From water shortages and labor pressures to competition from imported fruit, the Woodman family must continually adapt to keep their operation profitable and their land productive. When surplus citrus began threatening the farm’s margins, Tyler found another opportunity. He opened The Lemon Grove, creating a local storefront that turns excess fruit into value while giving customers a direct connection to the farm and the people who grow their food. Go behind the scenes at Woodman Citrus Farms to see how citrus is grown and harvested in Arizona, how fruit moves from the orchard through packing, and what it takes to produce lemons, grapefruit, and oranges in the desert. From a 40-acre opportunity to an 800-acre family operation, this episode explores legacy, water, innovation, market pressure, and the determination required to keep American citrus farming alive in the Southwest. This is American agriculture. This is Farms of America.
