In this video, I examine concerns about white supremacist and far-right extremist recruitment within parts of the MMA and combat-sports world. The discussion looks at how fighting culture, online communities, gyms, social networks, and ideas surrounding masculinity and brotherhood can potentially be exploited by extremist movements looking for new members.
This is not an accusation against MMA fighters, fans, or the sport as a whole. MMA is an international sport practiced by people of every racial, ethnic, religious, and political background. The focus is specifically on documented concerns about extremist organizations attempting to recruit or influence people through combat-sports communities.
For Black MMA fans, fighters, parents, and anyone involved in combat sports, awareness matters. We need to be able to distinguish legitimate martial-arts training and healthy competition from political radicalization and racial extremism.
