Join me live as we walk from Evergreen Cemetery, the oldest existing cemetery in Los Angeles (founded 1877), to Mariachi Plaza in Boyle Heights, the neighborhood nicknamed the "Ellis Island of the West Coast." Inside the cemetery we'll visit the graves of Biddy Mason, who won her freedom in an LA court in 1856, plus Isaac Lankershim, Isaac Van Nuys and early LA mayors. We'll stop at Showmen's Rest, where hundreds of circus and carnival performers have been laid to rest since 1922, including Hugo Zacchini, the original human cannonball. We'll also see the 442nd Regimental Combat Team memorial, the Garden of the Pines, the Civil War veterans plot, the 1903 Ivy Chapel, and the Chinese Shrine and Potter's Field. Then we head west on 1st Street past the Breed Street Shul, Soto Station and the 1889 Boyle Hotel, ending at Mariachi Plaza. Stops: Evergreen Cemetery, 204 N Evergreen Ave Breed Street Shul, 247 N Breed St Soto Station, 2330 E 1st St Boyle Hotel, 1800 E 1st St Mariachi Plaza, 1831 E 1st St Support the channel / Sponsor a stream: https://adready.app/creator/walking-i...
