How do you design a real relational database from scratch? This video walks through building a comprehensive entity relationship model for a hypothetical travel company, EasyTravel Media Solutions, with six interrelated tables for customers, bookings, destinations, payments and agents. It covers choosing appropriate design tools and techniques, writing and running SQL queries that validate data, join multiple tables and use functions such as SUM and COUNT, and integrating security through authentication, authorisation, least privilege and constraints such as PRIMARY KEY, FOREIGN KEY, CHECK and UNIQUE. Every query and constraint shown is tested in SQLite so you can follow along and check the results yourself. Covers assessment criteria 2.1 to 2.4 of Unit 8, Database Systems. Made for learners on the OTHM Level 5 Extended Diploma and OTHM Level 4 Extended Diploma in Information Technology, HNC and HND computing students, and anyone building practical relational database skills for a lab demonstration or job role.
