From November through March, much of the Amalfi Coast quietly shuts down, hotels closed, restaurants shuttered, the famous steps and cliffside villages left to the off-season wind. That's exactly when Cape Town is at its best: full summer, warm water, and Clifton's own dramatic cliffs, granite slopes and multi-million-rand homes wide awake and in season. This 4K walk climbs through three distinct worlds in one coastal suburb. Below Victoria Road, beach bungalows carry a relaxed, bohemian coastal feel. Between Victoria Road and Kloof Road, apartment blocks rise with sweeping views over the water. Above Kloof Road, the super-mansions begin, architecture that looks like nothing else in the city. From Kloof Road, the highest point of this walk, those mansions rise further still. Just above sits Nettleton Road, regarded as South Africa's most exclusive street, where houses go for R175 million (roughly US$10 million).
