Welcome to SENG Betta Breeder – ever wanted to breed Betta fish but don’t know where to start?
In this video, I’ll walk you through everything, from choosing the right pair to raising baby Bettas. Whether you’re a beginner or just looking for tips, this guide will help you breed Betta fish successfully. Let’s get started!
1. Choosing the Right Betta Pair
First, you need a healthy pair. Choose an active male with bright colors and well formed fins. The female should be slightly smaller, with a rounder belly and visible egg spot. Avoid Bettas with torn fins or signs of illness.
2. Setting Up the Breeding Tank
Now, prepare a separate breeding tank. A 5-10 gallon tank with a sponge filter and heater is ideal. Keep the water temperature around 78-82°F (25-28°C) and maintain a pH of 6.5-7.0.
Tank Must Haves:
✔Shallow water (5-6 inches)
✔Indian almond leaves (helps with water quality)
✔A floating object (like a Styrofoam cup for bubble nest support)
3. Introducing the Pair
Never put them together right away! Place the female in a clear container inside the tank so they can see each other but not fight. The male will start making a bubble nest if he’s interested.
Signs They’re Ready:
Male: Building a bubble nest, flaring fins.
Female: Darker color, showing vertical stripes (breeding bars).
"If they don’t show interest after a few days, try a different pair."
4. The Breeding Process
Once ready, release the female. The male will chase her, and there may be some nipping. This is normal, but if the female is too stressed, separate them and try again later.
During spawning, the male wraps around the female, and she releases eggs. He collects them and places them in the bubble nest."
Important :
Remove the female after spawning to prevent aggression.
Leave the male to care for the eggs.
5. Caring for Eggs & Fry
The eggs will hatch in 24-48 hours. The male will guard them, picking up any fallen eggs. After another 2-3 days, the fry will start swimming on their own. At this stage, remove the male to prevent him from eating them.
First Foods for Fry :
✔Infusoria (first few days)
✔Baby brine shrimp (after 1 week)
Keep the water clean and feed them small portions 2-3 times a day.
6. Common Problems & Solutions
Breeding Bettas isn’t always easy. Here are some common issues and how to fix them :
❌ No bubble nest? - Try raising the temperature and adding Indian almond leaves.
❌ Male eats eggs? - He may be inexperienced. Try again with a different male.
❌ Weak fry? - Ensure stable water conditions and feed high-quality food.
And that’s it! If you follow these steps, you’ll soon have a new generation of beautiful Betta fish. Let me know in the comments if you have any questions or breeding tips! Don’t forget to like and subscribe for more Betta care videos. See you next time!"
