Riding: Alex Volokhov
Dylan Siggers & Alex Volokhov share a look into their own slice of mountain bike heaven, built and cultivated by them. World-class riding, all-time conditions and family to share it all with.
Alex - "I've been fortunate enough to travel to some incredible places to ride bikes, and have made some unreal memories with good friends along the way. And we're far from finished.
This season looked a little different. Between living in an off-grid, boat-access house, becoming a dad, injuries, and everything else that comes with life, I've found myself spending more time close to home. Our life isn't exactly normal, but we chose this. And as much work as it can be, I can't imagine it any other way.
It's had me thinking back to the simpler days of travelling and riding without much responsibility. A dream I spent years chasing.
But after filming this project with Dylan, I realized I don't think I've ever been happier. Life's busy, sometimes overwhelming, but it turns out everything I've been chasing might have been right here all along.
All I've Ever Wanted."
Dylan - "I’ve known Alex for over 20 years. We first met as 12-year-olds riding bikes and camping with our families at Whistler Crankworx. Touring from tent to tent, collecting as many stickers as possible, to then cover your bike in a frantic collage. Rip over to the river jumps, and repeat. Since then, Alex has become one of the people we were so excited to see as kids. He’s a real pro. Talented and hardworking.
Alex is the kind of guy who would carry your bike for you all day, rip back to camp first, get the fire going, and have a warm drink ready before you can even take your shoes off. Being around people like this brings everyone up. It raises the bar for what's possible and sets a precedent for how to treat yourself and those around you.
Alex isn’t alone in this; his wife Soph, is a total gangster. Raising their 2-year-old Luka off-grid, on a property only accessible by boat. They certainly do not do things the easy way. But this is a recurring theme of Alex’s ethos. He builds by hand, self-produces his films, runs all of his deals and does it with a smile.
The trip we shared to make this video was almost ethereal. I think we both needed it. We wanted to capture the people and places that mean the most to Alex, and in turn, to me as well. Watching our kids play together in their yard, sitting in the dark cabin as our headlamps died, or watching the sun go down as a distant rainstorm passes by from 2700m. Alex has truly curated his life into something money can’t buy; you have to build. And all we could keep thinking was how much we can’t wait to someday share these places with the people we love. Couldn’t want much more."
