NVIDIA's new N1X chip could end 40 years of the personal computer staying exactly the same. Unveiled this week alongside Microsoft, the chip is designed to run NVIDIA's entire 33-year CUDA software empire natively on a laptop, and a second, far bigger machine behind it can run AI models with up to one trillion parameters sitting under a desk.
In this video we break down:
• The N1X chip: co-designed with Taiwan's MediaTek, pairing a Blackwell GPU (up to 6,144 CUDA cores) with a 20-core Grace CPU, built on TSMC's 3nm process with ~70 billion transistors and up to 128GB of unified memory
• RTX Spark laptops shipping this October from Dell, HP, Lenovo, MSI, ASUS, and Microsoft — starting at $2,599
• The DGX Station for Windows: a 72-core Grace Blackwell Ultra machine with up to 748GB of unified memory, 20 petaflops of AI performance, and a $90,000–$100,000 price tag
• NVIDIA and Microsoft's "agentic runtime" bet — replacing the click-and-open app model with a persistent AI agent that reads files, drafts documents, and connects to smart-home devices in the background
• Jensen Huang's path to this moment: founded NVIDIA in 1993 with $40,000, nearly went bankrupt in 1996, bet the company again on CUDA in 2006, and watched it hit a $5 trillion valuation in October 2025
Intel and AMD have owned Windows PC chips for over 40 years through x86 — now NVIDIA is walking in with an Arm-based rival built to challenge that duopoly directly.
