#3 Div I LIberty vs #1 Div III Mechanicsburg

Olentangy Liberty host Mechanicsburg on February 4, 2017. The 43:21 min dual result Liberty win 60 to 14. The post season began 3 weeks after this dual. Liberty took 10 with 8 placing in state while Mechanicsburg tok 7 with 5 placers. Liberty had 2 in finals with 1 champion. Mechanicsburg had 3 in with 2 champions. This show is great example of team ranking is ONLY a tournament ranking and has no relationship to team duals. The show is also great example of wrestling focus on individual sport and has not embraced the team concept. Mechanicsburg brought 106 lb, 113 lb, and 120 lb wrestlers who did not place in sectional to go against Liberty 7th state, State Champion, and 4th state. Then Mechanicsburg forfeits 126, 138, 182, & 195. Liberty did not start their state placers at 152 & 195. The 126 lb forfeit was result of #2 Tyler Wetzel, 3rd, 5th, & 8th state left back in Mechanicsburg. Then Liberty 132 lb 3rd state freshman Conor Brady did not weigh in to go against #2 Alex Rhine State Champion. The result was one weight class as marquee at 152 when liberty bumped up their 145 lb state runner up to go against Mechanicsburg runner up Colt Yinger. Both had finished 3rd in 016 state in 145 pound class. Mechanicsburg did not bring their 4x State Champion Kaleb Romeo to contest Liberty state runner up Trevor Lawson at 170 lb. A big thanks go out to Fred Feeney for saving Matside once again as quick fill in as announcer with this shoot as scheduled announcer had trouble getting to meet and Fred stepped out of audience and took over.
