Why does balance still feel “off” after a stroke? 🧠
Balance isn’t just one skill, and doing harder balance exercises isn’t always the answer.
In this episode of my Stroke Recovery Roadmap, I break down four major factors that can contribute to balance problems after stroke:
✔️ Weakness, hemiparesis, and difficulty controlling one side
✔️ How vision, sensation, and the vestibular system work together for balance
✔️ Coordination changes and ataxia
✔️ Dynamic balance and handling the demands of real life
We’ll also look at exercise examples and ways these different areas can be challenged and progressed.
One of the biggest takeaways: the best balance exercise is the one that targets what is actually limiting YOU.
Someone who struggles to accept weight through their affected leg may need something very different from someone with impaired sensation, ataxia, or someone who feels steady at home but struggles in busy environments.
💻 Looking for continued support after stroke?
I also offer 1:1 online Neuro Wellness Coaching for individuals who are looking to continue working toward their fitness, mobility, and wellness goals beyond traditional rehabilitation.
It may be a good fit for someone who has completed or been discharged from traditional therapy but still wants structured support or increase the intensity of their current plan to:
• Stay consistent with exercise
• Continue improving strength, balance, endurance, and overall fitness
• Safely progress exercises as abilities improve
• Work toward meaningful higher-level wellness and activity goals
• Have accountability and ongoing guidance rather than trying to figure out the next step alone
