Stop Cleaning for Hours: 6 Japanese Habits Seniors Use for a Tidy Home
The summer I stayed with my grandmother in Japan, I never once saw her clean her house. No bucket, no vacuum roaring on a Saturday. And her little wooden house in Matsumoto was the tidiest place I have ever been. She did clean, of course. Just never for hours. She did it in small pieces, all day long, so nothing ever piled up.
I'm George Nakamura. I'm not a cleaning expert or a professional organiser. I'm a grandson who watched how a Japanese household runs, and who still keeps those habits in my own home in Sacramento.
In this one: shoes off at the door and the genkan, owning less with one in, one out, the zokin, an old towel with a second job, cleaning the kitchen and bath while it's easy, a home for everything and everything goes home before bed, and number 1, the ten-minute morning habit that makes the other five work.
Honest warnings in the video: sit down to change your shoes and wear house shoes with rubber soles, no ladders or step stools for high shelves, and never mix cleaners. These habits save time and effort; they won't fix a home that needs real repairs.
Which of these did your mother or grandmother do without even thinking about it? Tell me in the comments, and tell me your first name. I read every one.
