A bolt pattern can have the correct pitch diameter and still be rotated into the wrong position. A sine-bar stack can add to the calculated height and still produce the wrong angle if the wrong length or support reference was used. These are problems of interpretation as much as arithmetic. We will solve original layout and sine-bar cases by identifying the right triangle, defining the datum and checking the resulting geometry. Here, compound shop problems mean connected calculation steps. Setting a true angle in two planes requires its own defined three-dimensional method.
Moving diagrams, worked examples and separate practice answers for Machinist learners.
WHAT YOU WILL LEARN
• Select and verify right-triangle relationships for original machining layout problems.
• Calculate and independently check a complete bolt-hole coordinate pattern from a stated datum and angular convention.
• Calculate sine-bar support-height differences, absolute heights and inverse angles using the calibrated roller-centre distance.
• Evaluate numerical precision, reference conditions and practical verification limits for connected shop calculations.
